The one silver lining of the current Coronavirus quarantine might be that we have more time than ever to complete those home projects we’ve been putting off!

That’s why we’re sharing 3 ways you can keep your doors looking fresh & new until you’re ready to contact us and take advantage of our professional Refinishing Services!

How Do I Know if My Door Needs Some Attention?

Are your doors suffering from exposure to weather or just normal wear and tear?

It’s not always easy to tell why your door needs a little attention. However, here in South Louisiana we can almost always bet on the reason: exposure to moisture.

Whether it’s humidity in the air, just a little rain, or a full blow hurricane, our doors take an extra beating here in Louisiana.

Here are a few sure signs that your door needs some love:

  • Faded Wood: You may notice that some areas are lighter or darker than others.
  • Faded or Chipping Paint: You may see bare areas where paint has come off or general fading.
  • Damage: You may see scratches, gauges, or scarring to the door material

The first step towards solving a problem is knowing you have a problem right? Now you know what to look for. Now, let’s talk about action!

3 Ways to Keep Your Door Looking Fresh & New

#1. Periodically Wipe Doors Down with a Warm Damp Cloth

This will help with the residue that forms on the doors surface which over time will mildew and make the doors surface wear down faster. In Louisiana’s high humidity and damp nights doors endure a lot of moisture each day. With these quick and easy steps you will prevent your doors from future problems.

#2. Get Rid of Mildew

If your door has mildew, we recommend spraying 409 or Windex on a warm damp cloth then wiping down until the mildew comes off.

#3. Wipe Down/Rinse

After cleaning your door, wipe it down for a final “rinse” using a fresh clean warm cloth. DO NOT EVER USE A HOSE ON YOUR DOORS!

How to Clean Your Iron Door

We highly recommend Greased Lightening spray cleaner and degreaser to clean your Iron Doors.

  1. Use a nonabrasive soft cloth
  2. Spray the Greased Lightning cleaner on the cloth
  3. Wipe down the entire door including the scrolls.
