Decorated door blog 3 - 12 Ways to Deck Your Door for the Holidays & Our Decorated Door Giveaway!

There’s no denying what the holidays are truly about: giving, love, friends & family. But let’s be real, it doesn’t actually start to feel like the holidays until the decorations go up. Whether you’re a November 1st decorator or a post-Thanksgiving decorator, there’s always room for more decor to enhance the holiday spirit.

Oh, and did we mention it will help you to enter our Holiday Decorated Door Giveaway starting December 15th!

That’s right, all you have to do is post a picture of your decorated door in the comments of our Giveaway Facebook Post and you’ll be automatically entered to win a $50 gift card just in time for the holidays!

On the first day of Christmas I decked my door with…

#1. A Partridge in a Faux Tree (or Wreath)

Did you know that wreaths are the original front door decor? It’s true! While the first wreaths were actually worn as diadems or headpieces in the Persian and Greek empires to signify royalty, they eventually moved to our entryways.

When your entryway hosts a tree or wreath that honors the first day of Christmas with pears and plumage, everyone who visits your home this holiday season will know that you are holiday royalty!

On the second day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#2. Two Figure Skates…

A holiday decor idea that has been #trending for a few years now is the practice of using Figure Skates for Winter decor. Seeing as we live here in Southern Louisiana, it’s doubtful that you’ll have a pair just lying around but the great thing about this decor idea is that vintage or older skates look even better than new skates!

Add them to your partridge in a pear wreath, lay them elegantly next to the door or front porch bench (as if you just took them off from skating through town), or even use them as a make-shift vase and feature poinsettias or berry twigs.

On the third day of Christmas I decked my door with:

 #3. Three French Horns…

While we love the look and idea of using instruments in our decor (we’re all Jazz fans after all right?!) real instruments can be hard to find, expensive, and quite heavy to hang. We recommend finding some plastic/faux versions to feature in your front door decor.

12 ways 3 - 12 Ways to Deck Your Door for the Holidays & Our Decorated Door Giveaway!

Add them to your wreath, a front porch beam along with some mistletoe, or simply find an interesting yet out of the way spot to place them!

On the fourth day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#4. Four Faux Presents…

Using faux gifts to create an outdoor Christmas scene is a great way to deck your door for the holiday season. Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa gifts are involved. So why not add them to the front door celebration?!

With package thieves ever present around this time of year, these faux gifts could even make for a good decoy or distraction!

On the fifth day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#5. Five Gold Light Strings

If you’ve ever planned a big event or wedding you know that lighting can make the entire look of a room or in this case, front door!

12 ways 5 - 12 Ways to Deck Your Door for the Holidays & Our Decorated Door Giveaway!

We suggest finding at least a few strings of lights to feature on your front porch. Options include:

  • Line the outside of your front door
  • String along the front porch
  • Zig Zag across ceiling of front porch
  • Wrap around any front porch seating

However you choose to incorporate your string lights, they’re sure to make your door and your holiday merry and bright!

On the sixth day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#6. Six Yards of Ribbon

Depending on how creative (and patient) you are, you may need more or less yards of ribbon. The point here is to incorporate it wherever you can. Wrap it around your wreath, give your figure skates some decorative laces, tie a bow on a French Horn, or put it on your faux presents!

On the seventh day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#7. Seven Stuffed Santas

You’ve seen them everywhere; stuffed Santa Clauses! They’re big, they’re small, they’re white, they’re black, they’re funky, they’re traditional, they’re ALL ADORABLE and make for great additions to your decked door.

Sit them on your porch seats or bench, add them to your wreath, stick one inside a figure skate or french horn, set another atop one of your faux gifts, tie a bow around them with your ribbon, the possibilities and ways to use these little Papa Noelles are endless!

On the eighth day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#8. Eight Poinsettia Plants

We cannot get enough of these plants around the holiday season. Is it a plant? Is it a flower? Is it some beautiful hybrid?! We don’t know but we are HERE for using every kind of poinsettia plant in our holiday decorating.

Line your porch with large plants and incorporate smaller plants into your wreath or any of the other design ideas above.

On the ninth day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#9. Nine Painted Pine Cones

This is a fun DIY or craft you can do with kids or you can stick to just friends or yourself if you prefer not to deal with the mess of youngins playing with paint (we wouldn’t blame you). Choose white paint to achieve that frosted look or any color from your 2019 color palette!

12 ways 9 - 12 Ways to Deck Your Door for the Holidays & Our Decorated Door Giveaway!

Here’s how to get the look:

  • Find 9 or more pinecones in your own yard, a neighbors yard or even a public park
    • Bake them (under 200 degrees) in the oven to get rid of any unseen critters
  • Wrap floral wire loosely around the top or bottom of the pinecone & lay down some newspaper
  • Use spray paint for a light misting and a can or bowl of paint with a dipping method for full coverage
  • Let dry overnight then remove the wire and you’re ready to use them anywhere and everywhere

We recommend putting them in a bowl or basket, featuring them in your wreath or tree, or using them as “filler decor” anywhere you see a blank space.

On the tenth day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#10. Ten Limbs or Branches

This has the potential to be the most affordable and easiest decor idea we’ve featured yet. Simply gather any tree branches you can find from your yard or the park and bundle them (using your ribbon) to feature in a basket, figure skates, or any receptacle. This is a great idea for those going for a more rustic look for their holiday entryway decor.

On the eleventh day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#11. Eleven Ornaments a-Hanging

Can you really call it holiday decor if there aren’t any ornaments involved? We think not!

Choose the main theme color, an accent color, glittery, metallic, funky, cultural (crawfish ornaments anyone?), or fun when selecting the ornaments for your entryway decor.

Use your creativity and know that you can do no wrong but mostly, have fun with this!

On the twelfth day of Christmas I decked my door with:

#12. Twelve Loved Ones a-Gathering

While decorating gives us ALL the feels, a beautifully decorated front porch is nothing without loved ones a-gathering on it! The number one way to deck your door for the holidays is to gather all the friends and family you can in front of it for a perfect holiday photo-op!
